We are off in 12 days..
The weather forecasts have thunderstorms every day (as you would expect at this time of year)
But, are they like we experienced a few years ago (you can set your watch by them.. 4:30pm and down it comes for a short while, clears the air and then is sunny again) or are they long lasting and disrupting days..??
After the mental storms and flash flooding we have experienced in London this week my youngest is concerned that she will be sitting in doors watching the rain all holiday...

Hi Bluedaze, Dont think the storms have changed much! Still a big downpoor in the afternoon then it clears up again like nothing happened. I have been speeking to my agent who is purhcasing my villa for me and she says the weather is normal only 1 bad day of rain in the last couple of weeks.:D

I live and fly here. (I'm a pilot based at MCO).
The weather kinda sucks right now. In the morning it's great. Pool time! Aroung 85 dgrs. But it's clouding over around midday and staying that way until around 7ish. Around 90 dgrs. The storms are scattered, but if you get one you'll get hammered!
Have a great vacation.

Who is Zola.

I also live here and the storms are bubbling up any time at the mo, It is 11.30 am now and already clouding over. Just very hot and steamy and humid. I know people are tied to school hols but it is the worst possible time to come here. I agree with the statement the weaather sucks!!

100% correct! The best time in Orlando is either spring or fall (autumn). Even winter if you bring a jacket. Summer can me miserable.
Well, I bet that piece of info from the two of you has cheered up BlueDaze and anyone else going to Florida shortly no end!
Take no notice BlueDaze, they both live in Florida and have obviously forgotten how miserable. rainy and cold the UK summers can be if they can moan about Florida weather!
The rain normally doesn't last very long and it's still warm! Everywhere is air conditioned (cars, hotels, homes, shops, etc) so humid isn't as bad as it is in the UK and the sun shines an awful lot more in Florida!
Have a great time!

Having just returned from Florida to the most yukky humid, sticky and yet rainy weather here I would definitely choose August in Florida over the Uk anyday. At least as Blott says there is air conditioning everywhere whereas here the humidity is relentless, in Florida you are only in it for a limited time before you are back in a car or shop or villa and can cool down easily.
There really isnt much to do here with the weather like this, it is either too hot outside without a pool to cool down or too wet to go anywhere. In Florida when it rains there is still so much to do and it isnt depressing rain like it is here. I would much rather spend August in Florida given a choice.

OK... I'm sorry.... I understand you are all on vacation. The weather here is great for that. I just ment, compared to spring or fall, it's not too great.
You'll all have a blast here. I moved here from Ohio and absolutely love it.
Yup, I'm a Chelsea fan. My father used to take me to the Bridge as a kid. So, I'm an 'old. Chelsea fan. Peter Osgood, Ron "Chopper" Harris. That era. I'll be honest, I've never heard of the new crowd! But I love to watch the UK soccer on The Sunshine Network here in Florida.
Have a great vacation.

See..!! Even your TV channels can't lie.. 'The Sunshine Network' indeed..
We have to watch the baseball on 'The Grey and Drizzly Network' over here..!! [8D]
We had our vacation at the beginning of July and I was prepared to be miserable in the heat and humidity. Flyrr is right, the best time is the early morning to midday and because I couldn't get off UK time, I was up every day for sun coming up at 5-6am. Afternoon got thundery, then superb thunderstorms at about 4-4.30pm and we began to set our watches by them. There was a bit of a lottery to who got soaked in the rain - if you were OK you could hear on the radio about traffic coming to a halt only a few miles away, then pleasant evenings again. It's a tropical climate, not mediterranean so don't expect days of dry heat, and just adapt and work around it. Far from being miserable I loved it.
Drew
I am out here at the moment and I have to agree with Julie and Jeff the weather is not as good as it normally is in August.
Yes Ok normally its hot and humid and you get a late afternoon storm, well today it was overcast from 8 am then by 10am it was raining and it has rained on and off all day mixed with thunderstorms, its now 9pm and its still raining! There is flooding in Tampa and the forecast is more of the same!
I have been coming here for the last 20 years and this is the most rain I have experienced.
Sorry!

Just an update on the weather here right now ( Buenaventura Lakes)and its the usual bright and sunny morning 85F but last night... wow..
Thats the most rain Ive seen in a long while.A good three hour thunderstorm, must have been 3 or 4 inches. International drive was awash and the traffic at a standstill.
But at least it keeps the queues down at the rides!!
Right, off to Epcot now.

We to fly out on the 19th. We flew back on the 21st June after 3 weeks and it rained everyday bar one, did not spoil anything though as it was thunderstorm from hell about 5pm for an hour and then dried up, cooled the air! During the day it was between in the 90s! We knew what to expect though as been before in Hurrican season.
Hey plenty to do when it rains! Think of all the shopping!!!

Neil,
I should have got up earlier! Got a sick child so i was up many times last night.
Im near Champions Gate and its 10am here and there's no sun at all, complete cloud cover, that storm last night seemed so go on forever!
If I didn't have an unwell 2 year old I would be off to a park!
Still rather be here than in the UK!
Lucy
We've just had a family water fight in the garden and come in to cool off from the heat - this is the UK (Nottingham) and we are making the most of the good weather (we never expect it to last - good old England). But I would swap places and be in Florida, thunderstorms and all, in the blinking of an eye if I had the chance!
Me too!
The sun is trying to come out but its still very cloudy, according to long range forcast this weather is here for another week!!
Lucy
The weather is there for ever more not just for the week. Only problem is it changes when you don't want it to !!!

It rained most of the afternoon today. But not the usual pop-up thunder storm type rain. We had a stationary front sitting across Central Florida, which gave us steady rain. The temprature went down a little too.
Expect more of the same tomorrow.
And that concludes the weather. Next on TV, Thunderbirds!
Hi Everyone
Here in Crescent Lakes its been raining every day for a week!!! As we have been here since the end of June its quite a relief from the heat, and nothing like a week of rain in the UK. Here there is soooooo much to do, and despite the rain its still hot. We have been in Florida several times during August in the past and never known it to rain so much for so long. My friend in Minneapolis rang to say she had heard on the news about the rain down here.
Re: footy - Sunshine Network, pity we cant get that channel in our villa. My husband is suffering serious footy withdrawal symptoms at the moment. Now the season has started back home, he's finding it tough. And, to make matters worse - he's a Spurs Supporter. Poor guy !!!!!

Good Morning from SUNNY FLORIDA!!!!
Yes it is sunny this morning, don't know how long it will last but I will keep you all informed!
Had rain into the early hours last night but this morning its beautiful.
We have a friend who lives in Sarasota and has done for years and she said its the worst summer they have ever had, but hey Id still rather be here than in the UK.[8D]

Well folks I am so pleased to hear our rain dance worked! We were out July 13-31 and some of our lawn was not looking good as pasrt of the irrigation system had blown. We spent alot of the holiday trying to sort it out (note the royal we here)and finally fixed the day before we left. However, it will take a while to come back, so natch we did a rain dance thereby hoping to avoid HOA stroppy letter followed by fine!
Arrived back in the Thames Valley to find a heatwave, garden here is parched. Unable to sleep at night so hot, thank goodness we have aircon in our new offices so can at least do some work during the day! My 2 dogs are beside themselves (old english sheepdogs - shorn 8 weeks ago so now in desperate need of another cut and blow dry). Rain yesterday pm and still this am (yes got soaked walking the hounds) but it is still warm.
The thing with Florida is, when it is nice you can still sit by the pool etc. And when it rains what do we do? Shop[msnwink]! So either way it's a win, win situation[msncool].

Tampa just issued an evacuation order for 380,000 people.
Nice and calm here in Polk County at the moment, if Charley hits land at Fort Myers it will turn North East and we will feel the effects more in the Orlando area.
If it hits land at Tampa Bay, Orlando will still feel the effects but apparently not quite as bad.
Toronado watch in effect for the area from 8am this morning.
