My mother in law has been given an American diet sheet (she is on a low fat diet) and it suggests Graham crackers as a snack. What are they?? I'll be over in Florida next week so can pick some up for her or is there a UK equivalent.

Easy peasy, they're very similar to digestive biscuits Drew! :)

Nabisco is the good brand name for Graham Crackers but i didnt realize they were good for low fat diets. Will have to remember that if its true as they taste too good to be for diets![msntongue]

Graham Crackers

Graham crackers were named for the 19th century champion of wholemeal wheat (graham) flour and vegetarianism in general, Sylvester Graham. Graham crackers are whole wheat crackers sweetened with honey or molasses and were invented by Graham in 1829.
Apparently they make a low fat version

I don't think I will ever look at Graham crackers quite the same way again!

They are very yummy and come in all flavors. I am a chocolate lover- and chocolate graham crackers are a good thing to munch to settle a chocolate craving!

Definitely get the Nabisco Honeymaid Grahams. They also make Honeymaid Graham Sticks that come in regular and cinnamon and they actually are very good for those on a low-fat diet and they're made from whole-grain too! You'll find these easily in the cookie/cracker aisle of any grocery store.

I very reluctantly tried a cheesecake recently which stated "crust made from Graham Cracker Crumb"-I thought it sounded awful, the thought of a base made from "crackers". However, it was really delicious, very chocolately and I would definitely choose it again!

Well you learn something new everyday on this forum! 'Low fat diet' and 'tasty' never go together in my book but now I feel an introduction between Graham crackers and I is about to happen.

We had a hunch that they were digestives but I wouldn't have thought that Digestive biscuits would be good on a low fat diet (it was a dietician who gave her the leaflets) but I'll look out for the low fat ones next week. We use digestives to make quick bannoffee pie. Thanks for your help on this one by the way.
