The one major dissapointment of the holiday that we had was the lack of Customer Service everywhere we went. Staff were rude, impolite and generally lacked the usual great friendliness that you come to expect with service staff in Florida. We thought it maybe because it is early in the year and is because the staff were all trainees but because it happened nearly everywhere we went we are not so sure:(
Also, what is with the 18% gratuity that appears on your bill if you are in large groups and then the server also expects a tip! WTF is all that about, it is either one or the other in my book not both.
The vheck in staff at orlando that Virgin employ are next to useless and need to read up a bit on there rules and regulations before they are forced into the front line. Simple things like if you are travelling with an infant you are allowed a Car Seat, Pushchair etc.. on top of your luggage allowance they did not know about! 5 people in all had to be asked and then they called an senior staff member who said straight away that it was ok!

The main people we dealt with at the resort were fine.

Not only Virgin do this. We have had at least three other airlines try to include the carseat/buggy in with our baggage allowance:(Norma.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience with the customer service guys. We have always commented how good the service is, there are usually of us in our party so we get the gratuity added on automatically on some places, can't say they have expected more than this though. If we do get a really good waiter we will leave a bit more. Hope this hasn't put you off going to Florida though.[msnsmile]

Sorry to hear of your disappointment re cstomer service.
We have travelled to Florida many times - at different times of year and have always commented as to how good the level of service is in shops and restaurants. Definitely far better than we generally recieve here in the UK.
You must have been very unlucky!

Like you Daniel we were a large party (8 people) and when the party is this size the gratuity is automatically added so i dont think the staff have to "please" as much for that tip
saying this though we had only one bad experience and suprisingly that was in the MK i dont know what the place was called but it was a ice cream/cake and patisserie sort of place at the top of main street on the right hand side
the server was rude and incompetent but after a few quiet words in a supervisors ear he swiftly changed his attitude [msnwink] from then on we booked into restaurants as two tables of four and asked for them to be next to each other, this way we could tip according to the service we received and not because it was automatically added to the bill

I am wondering if it is because it is the start of a new year as there was lot of hiring signs every where. I have to say the place where we found the worst service was at Magic Kingdom and every where was soooo sloooowwww.
Put me off Florida, NEVER!!!!!!!!

When we checked in at DTD last year we were told that all the staff were being made redundant later in the year as the jobs were being outsourced. Maybe that's why it's now causing a problem, cheap staff high turnover. The lady who served us had been working for them since they started in Orlando she wasn't impressed to say the least.
As to the service charge being added to the bill my husband says that the waiters don't always get this, it should be divided up between the waiting staff but it would depend on who you work for.
I don't know if it's the same in USA but here the waiting staff are taxed on their expected earnings, a bone of contention in his restaurant as most people wont tip if they pay a service charge so the waiters are loosing money. I would rather deduct the charge and pay the server.

I agree with you BQ, i would rather pay ther server as after all they are the front line for the restaurant! However, i feel that the expectancy of some of ther servers for a tip as well as the 18% service charge was all to apparant in a lot of places we went to.
The only place where this didn't happen was at Key W Kools which we wnt to for my birthday and had a great time!!!

oh dont Daniel your making my mouth water and its only just after brekkie time!!
i think the tip should be for the person whos running around seeing to our needs when in the restaurant, who gives a nice friendly smile, makes us feel like nothings to much trouble, we made a mistake once, went to Race Rock and the bill came in at $98 (something like that) so we added to it a further $23 the waitress was lovely, we were last left in the place and they were all lovely, wasnt till we got home when i really looked at the receipt and found it already had the whatever % added to it!
had to learn from that experiance!![msnembarrased]

I too had a problem at DTD on my return check in, hope you complained as I did to Virgin. Never had a prob at DTD before but this year the woman I dealt with was rude, incompetent and had changed all of our prebooked seats even though the plane was half empty, what really annoyed me was that she kept quiet about the change and when I brought it to her attention she pretended that she couldn't hear me and spoke to my husband instead. Thank goodness though when we got on the plane we had the best cabin crew ever, more than made up for my earlier upset and after take off they told us we could utilise the empty seats that had originally been allocated to us.

If you want rude come to Boston...I think its part of the reason so many people go there.. to be shouted at by staff..have the line just close when you're almost at the front..and have the stuff just talk about their home life while you're waiting...[msneek]..trick if you're a Brit is to talk loud...I've had lines open up for me just so the staff can have a chat about their English holiday...I hate shopping because of the time it takes to pay...everyone works so slow...if I'd done that where I worked in the UK I'd be out the door...
