Monday 31st July 06
we were up early for once today as the boys were starting space camp today and registration started at 8.15am!! Loaded all in to the car for the 30 minute drive to the Astronaout Hall of Fame at Kennady where we got thechaps kitted out in their Camp shirts and caps. They were then alloted their designations fot the week. Number one son "Spiff" was in Discovery team and young "Samo" was in Mercury team.
The morning was spent doing tests in fitness, dexterity and mental agility. Spiff was pleased to find he had scored high for fitness and had been alloted the roll of Commander on the Space shuttle for their mission to retrieve the Hubble space telescope in the afternoon. Samo meanwhile in his group headed off to the simulators to find out what it was like trying to work in space and what zero gravity feels like.
The afternoon shuttle trip came round and Commander Spiff took control of the shuttle as they hurtled into space. There was lots of codes to input and then the PS2 took control of the arm to retrieve the telescope. After safely gettig the telescope into the bay they headed back to earth and after a safe re - entry they landed.......... and then managed to flip the shuttle on the runway [msncry] Apparently it went something like
Mission control " Dude - flip the switch on the left"
Commander Spiff " There are 250 on the left man - which one"
oops - too late!!
Oh well the shuttle will live again on Friday when Commander Samo gets a go [msnscared]
The intreped explorers where collected at 4.30 and returned to Cocoa Beach where they spent the evening surfing.
Tuesday 1st August 06
Today the Space Cadets had a tour of the Kennady Space centre which apperenly was "Way Cool" before again finishing the day at the beach.
Wednesday 2nd August 06
The space cadets are getting tired now with the early starts and late nights but still managed to have a great time. There was some science today involving liquid nitrogen and freezing stuff - don't ask - as well as making rocket fuel.
Spiff then had his chance at doing some space walking and simulator type stuff. Samo learned that he will be shuttle commander for the Mercury group and will get to crash - I mean Fly - on Friday.
And what you may ask have the parents been doing all this time - why we have been lazing on the beach, a little body boarding, and just a little bit of shopping. As a family we have just spent each evening surfing and relaxing in the bar on the pier. Sheer Bliss. I am just amazed I can find anytime to log on and tell you all about it [msncool]
Untill next time this is the Space Cadets logging off - over and out!
