Hi

My wife suffers from hay fever here in the UK. Anybody know what the pollen count is like in Florida in May?

Can't give you any facts and figures, I am afraid, but my daughter suffers quite badly from hay fever but found she had no problems when she worked for a year in Florida - in fact she was considerably healthier and her asthma was much improved, too. We have no idea why this was so.

You could try www.pollen.com

Stuart suffers from hay fever in the UK but never seems to suffer when in Florida so it could be that your wife will not be exposed to the same pollen which causes her hay fever. However, most hay fever remedies are easily available from shops, supermarkets and chemists and Stuart always brings home a supply to see him through the summer.

Same here, I have never suffered in Florida. Just a tip though, do remember to start taking your hay fever meds a day or two before your return to the UK or you may find it hits you full force on your return as meds often take a while to build up, especially sprays

I have really bad hay fever here in the UK, but in Orlando I haven't had a single problem with it (I've been there in February, June and July.) Also, my dad would get very severe hayfever reactions in the UK, and has never had a single problem any time he's been in Orlando either.
I do take medication for heatrash though, when I'm out there, and that may have some effect on reducing my hayfever symptoms..
I hope this works out okay for your wife, cause I know how annoying it is to be stuck with sneezes and itchy eyes all day!

There is a pollen count on a daily basis which is sometimes given with the weather first thing in the morning on TV out in Orlando. However, they don't have the same pollen seasons as us grass, oak etc so the effects are not the same. My son suffers badly and can't go outside in the pollen season in the UK, in Florida, he's fine.

Stuart is here at the moment and although he was suffering from hay fever before leaving the UK (grass pollen) he has not had any problems since arriving on Wednesday.

I suffer quite badly during May/June with hayfever in the UK but have never had any symptoms in Florida - even through the Spring/Summer months. I always take some hayfever tablets with me just incase but have never had the need to use them - even in the 'floral' parks like animal kingdom and busch. [8D]

I thought animal kingdom would have really high pollen levels, especially seeing that on the day that we went it was raining, which would have brought the pollen down with it, but it was just fine! I don't know, it must be something in the Orlando air! :)
