I have a week left to go yet still no camcorder!!!
1. buy here or orlando?
2. record straight onto dvd or memory cards or mini cassette.?
3. buy the smallest with stabilisation features?
4. I would like good low light quality
5. good battery life without having to purchase more batteries.
6. Price range no more than £600

Help!! drowning with tech overload:([msnembarrased]

last week I purchase 2 Fuji digital S5000 cameras as well as 2 2x telephoto lenses, 2 Ultra wide angle lenses, 1 Fish eye lense as well as cards , reduction/stepup rings and bags. I estimate I saved over £700

I would buy here off the net, Would suggest a Cannon MV range as they are the best in my opinion, Would
record to tape so that if your into PC's you can then take bits out, add bits and tidy it up and make a
great movie

Cannon meet all your other requirements, I have a Cannon MV650I price £400 normally £600-£700 off the
net, couldnt match that price in Florida

Has anyone seen the quality of the Sony camcorders that record straight onto dvd? Although Dixons have the cameras (but they are cheaper on the net0 we haven't seen any recorded pictures yet. My daughter is thinking of one for her 18th as it would negate the need to transfer onto video or dvd, which she probably wouldn't want to mess around with too much.

Thanks Chris
We jsut need to check on the prices of the dvds they use now. We've been waiting till the end of the A levels last week and the Prom before we started to look too seriously at them but they caught her eye a little while ago.

Steph, the Sonys use 8cm -R type DVDR, they're 85p each here,

I've just bought the new Sanyo Xacti VPC-C1 digital camera. It's about the size of a mobile phone and so can be carried about easily. It is totally solid state and records onto an SD flash card and takes digital photographs and video (simultaneously if need be). It literally fits into the palm of your hand and seems ideal for the parks.:D:D

Yesterday I bought A Cannon MV750i from Jessops nice and light to carry around there price was £450 but with price matching I got it for £404, I was pleased with this price. The problem with buying in the US is if you don't declare it on return you are breaking the law and if it breaks down within the 1st year what do you do!

If you try #Jessops, they have really dropped their prices lately

And don't forget that US camcorders record using NTSC not PAL so copying onto say a full size VHS or playing back through a non NTSC compatible TV tape using the analogue connections (SVHS, Composite etc.)won't work, nor will the MiniDV tapes be playable in PAL camcorders, you'll have to use the digital output into a PC and convert through editing software and then output to tape using hardware or burn to DVD, Svcd etc.

I agree with Chris - I did a LOT of research be buying my camcorder. I went for the Canon MV750i - fantastic piece of equipment. I got it from Pixmania with additional 4hr battery, no problems at all.

Jessops say they will price match any UK price - including internet - just print off proof. It does have to be UK mainland company though.
