I think or I would have thought that this has come up before, but is it possible to play US DVDs on a UK playstation? If not is there a hack for these too? Is there anyway you can tell if your playstation is all regions before trying hacks, apart from the obvious of trying a US disc (which of course I haven't bought as I didn't think I would be able to play them [msnscared])?
Regards

This has been on the forum before... but you can buy a boot disk (legally) call DVD regionX for about £10 which makes the PS2 multiregion for DVD's... Don't get confused with US Games etc. which requires much more drastic steps...
From a website:
DVD RegionX Technical Details:
A Blank Memory Card Is Required To Use The Region X Product. For any further queries regarding this product (including issues regarding the Sony remote controller) please see the helpful website: Region X
Simply plug a memory card into either memory card slot, load the Region X CD and Play!
Plays PAL and NTSC (Requires NTSC compatible TV)
Play Region 1-6 DVD Movies
Banishes the annoying 'green screen' effect you normally get when you try to watch DVD movies in high quality using RGB or SCART on your PS2.

Well you asked for it; hope I don't get into trouble for this post?
PS2 Mars II Mod Chip v9
PS2 Mars II Mod Chip v9 - The Mars II /MA-501 is the very first Playstation 2 mod chip which covers all V9 PS2 consoles from all regions. It is fully compatible with SCPH-50000/50001/50002/50003/50004.Ê The Mars II MA-501 ModChip allows you to boot any PS2 or PS1 Import, Game (CD-R, DVD R) without swap method and without the help of an Action Replay 2 or Gameshark 2. The PlayStation 2 Mars II Mod Chip also features a sleep function leaving the PS2 in it's 100% original state.
Messiah Mod Chip
The Messiah Mod Chip for Playstation 2 was an early solution for fans wanting to play imported games. No more waiting to play the latest PS2 games from around the world, just fit the Messiah Mod chip into your Playstation 2 console and all the USA/JAP PS2 import games on CD/DVD will boot, no swapping reqired. The makers of the Messiah Modchip asserted that a mod chip is useful because "many PS2 games are available much cheaper and earlier from the USA/JAP markets, and generally those are the big titles".
Be that as it may, it appears that the Messiah Mod-chip enables US Playstation 2 consoles to play games off DVD-R and CD-R just like originals. The Messiah chip direct boots "everything". There are no tray eject tricks or swapping with original games required, including 'EA' version games. There are no no 'TOC' size issues to restrict playing and NTSC PSX games also play full screen.
Features of the NTSC Messiah Mod Chip
Direct Boot of PS1 Original Imports and backups
Direct Boot of PS2 Original Import CD and DVDs
Direct Boot of PS2 Backups (CDs and DVDs)
Direct Boot of EA Sports Backups (without patch)
Direct Boot of Original Imports EA Sports
Only 23 wires install for 100% reliable performance
Bonus Features: Full Screen Display
Compatible with ALL US PS2 consoles (V1 - V5/V6)
But you must be sure this is something you want to do?

If you are wanting to play US or region one DVD's in the UK you are better off buying a cheap dvd player, most are now programmable by remote control for free.
Walmart is a great place to buy cheap chart DVD's, or try www.dvdboxoffice.com from canada, they ship to the UK for free!! YES FREE.
Or try Play.com, cdwow.com, these can supply some films in different regions if wanted.
For the hacks for the DVD's if you want info DM for the details.
Sony are about the only one that have to be chipped prefessionally to work with other region discs.
We have always found Samsung to be one of the best for region hacks!!
Easy and cheap and good quality!

Try this link.....it worked for me about 9 months ago

I have found the UK players I have bought much easier to 'fix'. Our recently purchased DVD player at the villa (Memorex MVD2037) has been a nightmare!! Anyone finding info on this would be a great help.

for your Memorex, you might want to try;
1. Turn on the Player.
2. Press the Open/Close button.
3. Press the Clear button.
4. Press 1,3,6,9.
5. Press the Region you want, 0 for Region free.
6. Turn off and on your player.
confirmed with a pal r2 disc.
Good luck!
