View Full Version : HAIRDRESSERS .....
Does anyone know of a good hairdresser that they can recommend? We are here for the summer and my roots are desperately need 'retouching'!!!! so a salon that is good at colouring would be great.
Many thanks everyone

Sheila,
It is a difficult one, I have had my hair trimmed and curled on 3 or 4 ocassions in Walmart hairdressers but I would not say that was the best place to have colour done. It will be a case of hit and miss I think. I am very light blond and I buy a briliant product in Walmart that you only have to leave on for 10 minutes (I leave for about 20 as I like it light), honestly and it works. I am down to my last box but can have a look tonight. Something like L'Oreal High Definition in a red box. Not sure if they sell it in the UK yet as I live in Europe.
I am going back out in 15 days so shall definately stock up. Do you never do your own colour? I used to go to Tony and Guy and pay a fortune and on at least 3 ocassions they mucked it up and I shall never go back as last trip there I had a ring of colour around my head and they had to cut my hair to get rid of it and not the way I wanted it, never mentioned it to me they must have thought I was blinkin blind! I make a better job myself! Thats what happens when you Franchise!!!!!!!!

Hello Sheila; could you give us a hint of where here is, it will help home in on the best salon...
From a previous post, I think Sheila is on Crescent Lakes.
Well I would be cautious with colouring, I had highlights done twice at the same hairdresser (at Orange Lakes) and subtle they weren't, although have to say they looked quite good!
Now I just grit my teeth and have my highlights done at Haringtons and pay a fortune. Actually I say highlights, mine are a mixture of high and low as I have blonde, gold and red put in it!
Hi Everyone
How stuuuuuuupid of me not to say that I am stateside. Here for the entire summer and loving every minute. That was until i read the horror stories about the hairdressers over here. To think I almost went to Tony and Guy because it was a name i recognise from home. Phew. I would love to do my own hair but its naturally dark, dark brown and it really needs professional colouring. I have to say I like my highlights to be seriously blonde so subtle is not a problem. Now I don't know where to go. Never heard of Haringtons, where is that?
Appreciate all your advice, keep it coming.

I have had my hair done several times in Florida Mall and I have to say the hairdressers there are young, hip and can't be beat.

Sheila,
The Tony and Guy might be ok where you are. I used to pay £96 to get my hair done in there and was never entirely satisfied on the last couple of trips. One was in Piccadilly and the other Chester, do not know why I kept going back really. My natural colour is Mousey brown and I had highlights for many a year. About 10 years ago I had peroxide hair, now it is still very light but I do not bleach it just use a strong colour. Get it done professionally and then maybe once you have the colour you want then look at doing it yourself. I have been doing my own hair on and off for 20 years. Living abroad most of my life, I found it difficult to find hairdressers. Living in Asia was the worse as finding someone who could cut Western hair was difficult and boy did you have to pay!
Good luck with the search and let me know as I am always looking for a hairdresser when I am over. Like to get it washed and blowdried every couple of days as I cannot be bothered doing it myself since I grew it.
Sorry Sheila, when I mentioned Haringtons it was a roundabout way of saying I now have my hair done in the UK! (They have quite a few salons in the south-east and advertise regularly in Vogue, Glamour etc.)
I would think if you go to an up-market mall you should have no problems - or try asking some of the residents if you are going to be there a while.

Being a woman is not cheap, all the beauty treatments we have to have, hey and it is painful, try having your legs or bits waxed!![}:)]
For the Waxing, Sheila -
I went to a place called " Nails" - it is in the row of shops near Summer Bay that has a publix etc, on 192 RHS just before I27. I had a wonderful wonderful walking on air pedicure with airbrushed nails, and a manicure - they do waxing and facials also. After two weeks of walking around themeparks I found it absolutely heaven. The girls [ and a man] in there are Chinese, and mine did not speak a lot of english, but I just sat in this wonderful leather massaging chair, with my feet in a footspa attached, that massaged my feet, and then had the full trip - and for $36 plus trip for all that it was a bargain, and has been added onto my " must do" list :D - Also I got talking to the MAN on either side of me - it is the new thing in the states - they have manicure, pedicure and clear varnish. Can't see my hubby going for it.
A friend of mine had a perm and color at Hair cuttery at Porange lake publix once and was happy with it - you can just walk in , no appt needed.

Most of the nail salons/technicians are owned or run by Chinese/Asian. I have yet to have my nails done by any other nationality! They do wonderful spa pedicures to, it is a real treat. It is one of the first thing I do, have my nail extensions with some fancy nail art and a spa pedicure with an American or French polish. Then off to have my hair blowdried and the jet lag has gone![}:)]
A woman after my own heart !!

The hair removal waxing strips I bought at "Sally's" seem to be far more adhesive than the waxing strips we have at home. I prefer to do my own waxing. They seem to get even the shortest hair out and therefore it's easier to have a "Hollywood" ;)
For those who prefer to shave, use the razors with the inbuilt shaving soap...so easy for the legs when you haven't time to wax...they give a great clear finish, have three blades too. About $13 for three refills...available anywhere.

I wax my legs myself and used to do the other bits but I want it done professionally and neatly!!!
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all your advice. I finally got my hair done today at one of the salon's in the Florida Mall and I have to say i am absolutely thrilled. Its never been done so good (my husband is still recovering from the bill - mega pricey). I will definitely go back there.
Re: the waxing, bought one of those do it yourself microwave "roll on" waxing set. Never again. It was 10 times more painful than a salon. Will get it done professionally next time. !!!!
Thanks again,

The strips you can buy in Boots are the best as you stick them on, take a deep breath and pull them off!
Come on them tell us how much your hair costs, so I can scare hubby to!
My wife, the last time we where out there, said the same thing about her roots, and her and a couple of the girlies, went to the hairdressers in Celebration, she came back with a very sheepish look on her face, and when I asked her much, she said it was $275, luckily we have our own seperate accounts, not that it bothers me, I am all for your girls looking your best.

That's nice Alan, most men do not appreciate the effort and money we spend to look our best, luckily Mr CDV has the same views as you! (Probably because I have my own account to)!:D
Hi Everyone
Okay Cruella as long as you promise not to tell hubby cos we never tell them the EXACT amount do we !!! It was $220 and worth every penny. I am not a high maintenance person so i dont feel too guilty !!!!

That's a regular price for a really decent hairdresser. What was it called Sheila?
Hi Cruella
It was the Salon Cielo and its next to Nordstrom in the Florida Mall. Its also a spa so i am thinking of going back for the chemical peel but thats another story. The girl that did my roots was Jessica and she was fantastic. Highly recommended salon....
Dont feel quite so bad about the price now......
