This has been ongoing for some years and it has always foundered because of the dark mornings in Scotland in the winter, so I suppose someone is now trying to find an alternative solution by keeping Scotland out of the equation. Surely if it is darker in the mornings (which it will be even in the south) even more mothers will feel inclined to take their children to school by car!

It was only when trains started running through from London to Bristol that time in England was standardised as it made the timetable very difficult to decipher as users did not know if it was local or London time.

Compare it to Arizona where some areas of the state observe daylight saving time and some areas don't!! You also have some funny cities in America like St Louis that has a river running through it that marks the time zone boundary. The two sides of the city are in two different time zones an hour apart!

There is still a clock in Corn Street with two minute hands, one for London time and one for Brizzle time.

Not a bad idea at all. I always thought that they should advance BST by 30 minutes (or pull back GMT, depending on when you look at it) and leave it at that so that the new time will be midway between the present two settings.

That's exactly what I thought as well, 30mins isn't going to make much of a difference to either time zone so would seem to be the best idead allround.

If we moved to European time we'd save lots of lives so I think it is a good idea.

Jill, why is this a problem? I take my children to school by car because I want them to be safe and dry and it would take over an hour and a half to walk there!![msnscared]

Lal I do not have a problem with it as I take my son to and from school by car daily, and he will be 18 next month, mainly because the bus service is useless and exceedingly expensive. Where we live we are constantly hounded by those that are anti school run mothers which really annoys me.
