We went last year with My Travel. The flight out was a disappointment as it was our first flight with them, however once you know what the flight will be like, you can be prepared. The food was disgusting, and they didn't have kids food, and then refused to eat anything throughout. We had to pay for crisps and biscuits all the way. Also you have to pay £5 for headphones, which you must keep for the flight back, otherwise you pay another £5 for another one. However on the way back, we were well prepared with food and drinks for the kids and wine and brandy for me and husband. We also kept our headphones. We had a really good time. Their entertainment system was very good, we watched new 3 films that only came to UK about 6 months later. Above all, IT IS A DIRECT FLIGHT. What wouldn't I give to have booked a direct flight with My Travel this year!!. We have now booked with American Airlines, and our booking has been changed three times. We will now get to Orlando at 12.04 AT NIGHT!!![msnmad] We booked ages ago, and as there are nine of us, it is difficult to find another flight on that particular day. To summarise, My Travel is not bad, once you are prepared. Also bring your water, and plastic cups, cutleries, napkins e..t.c as the Air Hostesses for some reason act like they are too busy to give you cups or spoons when asked. Some of them are pleasant, but when you ask for anything, they just disappear. Have a good flight.

MyTravel Group's chairman is admitting they face a real risk of the airline and company as a whole being grounded by the end of the year unless their financial situation and cash reserves improve.

The CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) are becoming increasingly concerned about the companys £1.3 billion debt, and their failiure to improve the situation and cut costs.

The company is meeting financial institutions and share holders to come up with a rescue package and if this fails the CAA is likely to remove their operating license and would ineffect ground their airline operations and prevent the company from taking further bookings. The banks over the last few months have alread bailed the company out on several occassions and poses the question will they want to bail them out again.

Sorry if this is bad news for someone.

I would appreciate any information please. Some of you have connections with airlines and insider news, so could perhaps advise me???

We are using Mytravel flights at Christmas, having booked via Thomas Cook.

I know we are ATOL/ABTA covered and personally insured, but I don't want to get closer and closer, hanging on to see if we are going to be OK.

What does anyone think (apart from you should have used the above links)

To be honest My Travel is a big group and they own Airtours, Direct Holidays, Cresta Holidays, Manos, Panaroma, Aspro and also they own the travel agents Going Places which was getting re-branded My Travel but was stopped with the issues which they had and also they have sold there american side.

My personal opition is that the other tour operators like First Choice, Thomson etc could not afford to let my travel go bust because ABTA would have to cover the costs involved which would be hugh.

Also i hope they dont because i own £2000 in shares in the My Travel Group.

I am very sure you will not have a problem but not 100%, it maybe a suggestion to speak with your travel agent over this matter and see what they advise you on the situation.

I heard on radio 5 this week that if My Travel creditors do not allow them to write off a huge amount of debt and reshedule the rest then they will be out of businees. They are offering shares in exchange for the debt being written off.

    Hi jtijani

We have flown with American Airlines a few times, flights are OK and the extra leg room is great. The one downside is that they do not do children's meals!!!! We Had a 5 year old and a 9 month oud on the last trip we did with them and while they were offered an adult meal they did not want it. So you are still going to have to stock up on food and drinks for the kids. Also remember that the in flight service on the domestic flight in the US is almost non existant, and most things like drinks have to be paid for.

Thank you Hampton Lakes and Ruth for responding

I have phoned TCook and been into one of their shops, the call centre knew about what was going on but the shop wasn't up to date. The girl in the shop kept harping back to Intasun !!!!

Anyway, the bottom line at the moment is wait and see!!!

Mytravel has gone to the highcourts to help them carry on their restructuring after the suggestion ruth mentioned was rejected yesterday.

We are covered every which way ( paid by credit card, insurance cover, ATOL, ABTA) but it doesn't stop us from worrying. We are in the cancellation window so cannot afford to change the booking i.e. half of money lost, plus we have a villa booked through this site. And, we booked car hire with TCook which I cannot get to bottom of whether it would be covered if they can't find us another flight on the same day if the worst happened.

Obviously, we are a lot better off than the staff involved and I do hope that the worst case senario doesn't happen. que sera sera.........Chrimbo Florida or Chrimbo here.....

There must be thousands of us affected & worried including staff and customers, as well as all the ABTA members who will have to sort out this mess if it goes to the wall.

We'll all have to have a group hug until we know...although I'm not holding out any hope for a definitive outcome, as it's dragged on so long already, it may continue to drag on for months.....leaving us all hanging on not knowing what to do.

If I were you and you could afford to lose deposits, I would check to see if you could get flights elsewhere ( assuming it's not a package and you have a villa/car booked elsewhere and you just need the flights?). We are due to fly out Christmas Day and so have already paid everything and would lose half our flight money, can't get an answer about the car hire, and have a villa booked separately, which the only hope we have is that our personal insurance has cover in.

One of the reports I read yesterday said they hope to get this action through the courts which would enable them to restructure before the end of the year. This is no use to us as if something happens that close to our hols I'll be going round the bend by then. The travel agents said that we would be offered alternatives or money back, but just like when everyone was waiting to see what effect the hurricanes may or may not have on their holidays, you want to know ASAP.

    Group hug then[grouphug]
