The best beaches we have found are along the gulf coast approx 60 mins from most communities when last visited in november, we swam with wild dolphins off clearwater beach, then enjoyed the sunset celebration, however if you surf try the east coast around cocoa and kennedy about 45 mins.[msncool][msncool]

Most places in Orlando are accessible by either the 192,the 27, the 417, the I4, International Drive, Osceola Parkway and the Orange Blossom Trail.

You just need to decide where you would like to stay to make best use of the road system.

I am west of Disney and we usually find that a combination of 192, International Drive, Osceola Parkway and the 417 gets us to most places without resorting to having to use the I4 too much -as I really hate that road especially when we need to travel east towards Orlando.

Re-beaches. Cocoa is the nearest beach at about 60 miles from Orlando -but I much prefer Clearwater on the west coast which takes about 2 hours by the time you have crossed all of the causeways.

Siesta Key at Sarasota with it's beautiful white sand again is about a good 2 hour drive away.

The best Street Map of the area is Orlando Area Street Atlas by Trakker Maps. As long as you know the address (which can be found on all guides), you can easily find your way there. It is not available in th UK (as far as I know) and has to be ordered direct from the US. Still, great value.

Or you could get yourself a copy of Microsofts MapPoint N America - works just like the UKs Autoroute.
