I felt £120 p/w was excessive and it was basically a way for Travel City Direct to squeeze that extra bit of profit from you.

Considering the temperatures in Orlando its amazing how cold the pools can be and after a day or so the pool tends to be something to sit around rather than play in.

I'm convinced now that I need the pool heating, but I think I'll wait and hopefully arrange a better deal locally.

We charge £14 per day = £98 per week for gas pool heat on our villas and it barely covers the costs. I would have thought the price they have quoted you is slightly high but not bad.

It also depends on the size of pool - our 7 bed villas have huge pools and I will be putting the pool heat prices up shortly from the above amount as we are running at a loss at the moment on them.

The owners who have quoted £70 per week above are either funding part of your pool heat themselves or have electric pool heat which is cheaper to run but does have some downsides.

We charge £100 per week pool heat and £60 per week spa heat but if you have both together we let it go for £140 per week combined, check to see if you have spa heat included in the rate.
I would also say yes you will need it.

Another point to consider is that an electric pool heater will take approx 2-3 days from switching on to bringing up to temperature. So if you leave ordering the pool heat until you get there it will be a bit chilly for the first few days, that is assuming of course that the management company comes out and switches it on straight away for you. Personally being a wimp I would not get in a pool with no heat[msncry]

Me niether Harry, I was out last May and even though it was warm out I thought the pool was too cold to swim in without heat. Guess I'm a heat it all year round sort of a guy...

With the charge mentioned you can bet they have a switch on switch off charge in there, I would have pool heating pre-booked since we have heard of people being assigne villas without a heater; then you have no option but to swim in the cold water..

We would opt to have the pool heated too, it would be a waste of a good pool if you couldn't get in it because it was too cold.[msnsmile]

Its £80 per week for the villa I'm renting.

£120 per week sounds a bit of a rip-off to me. Well it is Travel City Direct!

Jay Cee,can I suggest that you book your villa direct with the owner next time?

That way you have complete control over all elements of your holiday and will get lots of friendly help and advice from your owner A lot of owners now also have 360 tours these days so you can completely check out your house

Another thing to consider is whether your car hire is fully inclusive or have you more to pay when you pick up your car?

If renters book pool heat with us it is cheaper than booking it through the local agent and also there is a callout to switch it on and it takes a day or two to reach temperature

    Have a good time

I wouldnt say it was a rip off. If it is a standard set charge then they are having to allow for the large variances in pool size, also whether there is an integral spa to heat as well and whether the pool uses gas or electric to heat it.A lot of diffential in prices can be caused by the temperature that the individual owner has there heating set to, obviously the higher it is set the more it will cost to run.
If you imagine how much it costs to use an immersion heater here in the UK to heat a lagged hot water tank then you get some idea why it costs so much to heat a vastly greater quantity of water for hours a day that is exposed to the outside weather. In the whole scheme of things the extra cost is tiny in percentage terms to the overall holiday cost and can make all the difference to a good holiday.
