    Wedding in Florida

We left Cardiff on 2nd June flying with Monarch. The flight was delayed by four hours as the plane had gone tech and they had to fly an aircraft in from Manchester. We were given a £4.00 voucher which didn't go far! The flight over was fine and we were surprised by the legroom, I am 6'0' and 15st and I had plenty of room. The food was good and the flight attendants friendly and attentive. We arrived at Sanford and had a two hour wait to clear immigration. Got to Dollar expecting a huge queue but there was no-one at the desk. Got to Manesota Key and the rental villa at midnight, I was falling asleep at the wheel! We had travelled over to attend the wedding of a friends son and I have to say that it was the nicest wedding I have ever been to. They certainly do things differently over there, there was beautiful music and everyone was escorted into the church. It almost bought me to tears! The reception was at Harpoon Harry's at Fishermans Wharf, Punta Gorda. It was great sitting on the deck drinking cold beer and watching the Americans dance.. We had just suffered a week of poor weather thanks to Arlene but the weather on the wedding day was beautiful. Too hot to be wearing a suit and tie.
After the wedding we had a few days to ourselves and the weather was wonderful, too hot really and we took our morning walks along Manesota beach getting sunburned. Saw a white tip shark about ten feet out in the surf, I have never ran so fast! All in all it was a great trip though not really a holiday. On the way back we upgraded to premium class for £60.00 each which I thought was cheap. We had so much luggage that we would have ended up paying that in overweight charges. The return flight was on time and enjoyable although landing at Cardiff at 0350 was not much fun. Anyone thinking of flying Monarch.. I can thoroughly recommend them.

Haven't been to a US wedding but it sounds great. We watched a wedding on the beach at St Petes a couple of years ago, looked fantastic.[msnsmile2]

I should add that we took my suit over from the UK and when I tried it on the trousers wouldn't fit around my expanding middle aged waist!! A visit to J C Penney provided a new suit at sale price.. $175.00.. I have got to go on a diet........

Sounds like you had a great time. Did you do anything else in the few days after the wedding?

    Kevin,

No, we have done all the theme parks when the kids were young. These days we just hire a villa in the gulf and tend to visit the beaches, particularly love Boca Grande. We just barbecued and stayed by the pool in the evening, walked Manesota beach during the day. Getting too old for the frantic world of Disney!! although I can't wait for the day I become a grandfather and can take the grandchildren... All I need is an excuse really!

I love weddings - but there is something extra special about American ones. We went to one in Atlanta last month, everything was so lavish and "proper"! Lovely
We had a lovely wedding on Cocoa Beach - we had Steel Drums instead of music - fantastic
