    Visiting Mount Dora

Whilst staying in the Davenport area, spend a day visiting Mount Dora - about 1 hour's drive north on US 27 - a pretty little town with lovely shops and restaurants AND take a trip on the Dora Canal with Capn Bob and Capn Dee. (You can book at the Tourists Information Centre in Mount Dora, they say that they sail every day of the year). This will take you across Lake Dora to the man-enlarged Dora Canal and it is like stepping back in time to the old Florida. All kinds of bird life, alligators, turtles, otters if you are lucky and more. If you go in the colder season, hand knitted blankets are supplied to wrap you up cosy warm. We spotted a Bald Eagle last time and too many Blue Herons to count - we make a visit on each of our trips, every season is different.

Another one to add to the 'to do' list for next year. I had read about this in a guide book already and your description has really convinced me that I need to go and have a look around

Must try and fit this in next time. That's the trouble with Florida - there is so much to see and do there is never enough time to fit it all in.

Mind you, it means that you have to keep coming back, and that is no hardship!

In the book shop, they have a fantastic snack bar, where you can get a great coffee, terrific soup and a huge selection of tasty sandwiches...[clap]

We would also recommend a visit to Mt Dora. We stopped off there on our trip to St Augustine. Did not spend too much time in this quaint little place but's it's on our 'to do' list as a return visit.
