Yeah, Steph, I have booked through charter travel. We are flying with Thomas Cook on what i can only imagine is indeed a charter for their summer traffic. As we are going in to Sanford i kinda figured it would be a charter flght, that's mainly what they handle there, no?

Thomas Cook flights are generally charter flights I believe. I'm not quite sure how they operate but as you say most of the ones that fly into Sanford are charters whereas the scheduled seem to be Orlanod international.

That may be why they operate differently and insist on cofirming your flight (mind you if the seats are non refundable it shouldnt matter if they have no shows rather than be able to sell the seat twice, imo.

If it is an american airline confirm, and confirm seat numbers- UK ones, don't bother - that has been my rule from past experiences.

I've been booking my own own itinery (flights, car, villa etc) for several years have never confirmed my flights, either scheduled or charter (have used both) and never even thought of confirming the booking.

We have always called airline to check our flights, usually call them 72 hours before, then day before we travel, reason just in case flights have been changed, have always been advised to do this, no matter which travel agent I have booked with, have even done this when booking direct with the airline. As some times flight times etc are changed.

I have never done this before in all time of flying to Florida, I have used quite a number of different airlines so I'm not sure why you have to do this. I have used virgin, ba, thomas cook, charter, US airways and mytravel so that is a good selection of scheduled and charter.

I always call and confirm my flights. There must be some reason why they ask you to do it.

Usually there is just a recorded message saying there is no need to confirm flights, but better safe than sorry, and if there was a change of flight times, then the airline could let you know when you confirmed.

it is only a quick phone call so for me its worth it.

We ring before we leave to confirm. We never used to and arrived for a Virgin flight last September to be told it had been cancelled and we had to wait another 2 hours. Better to be safe than sorry. [msnoo]
