This year we followed our normal routine on arrival, unpacked bags and off to Walmart. Realised later that as we arrived on Saturday it wasn't a good idea as the queues at the checkouts were horrendous. Some years I have been walking around the store at 5am getting the items I had forgotten the previous night. Can't buy wine at that hour though, very sheepishly apologised - felt like a wino.

If you have never been to a disney park before I would start with Magic Kingdom. No matter how old you are you still get a buzz from the view down Main Street. I hate parking in Magic Kingdom and always park in Epcot. We take the monorail over to Ticket and Tansportation and then change to either the ferry or another monorail. When MK gets too busy you could always go back to Epcot and do a couple of rides there.

Another tip when you arrive at Orlando International go into the Disney Store and ask for any information they have on the parks, times of opening etc. Check the dates and times of the evening parades, Spectro Magic will be cancelled if it rains. Be flexible with your plans and you won't be disappointed.

All the parks have Guest Relations where you can pick up information guides for the other parks. There's also one at Downtown Disney.

we did the pirates dinner show (childrens ages 11,11,8,6) and it was a great night, like other have said food and drink ok but plentiful

we got front row seats because of the childrens disabilities but you can pay a few dollars more for these seats as they guarantee interaction for the children seated here

my nephew had loads of fun dressing up and being shipped out to save the princess, and all of the children got a certificate for taking part

i would also advise that you check out coupon books as there is usually money off vouchers in them

If your all going to be up early on the first day then you may want to consider going to Animal Kingdom and be ready for when it opens. The animals tend to react as they do in the wild, with more activity first thing in the morning and then as the sun get warm they find some shade and lay down. I have always found that the early safari ride has produced much better encounters with the animals.

Forgot to say that the best description of any of the dinner shows meals is edible, but then you are not going for the food.

Somewhere to dress up................well how about going to Downtown Disney, letting the girls loose in the Bibbity Boutique for nails and face paint, and going to Emerils or one of the restaurants on West side, and an early evening walk through pleasure Island - or go to the Cinema's there - or book a meal at one of the excellent Disney restaurants in the Hotels [the Polynesian luau for example, with cocktails -non alcoholic for the kids of course -on the beach watching the Disney Fireworks after -very special. Or the Hoe down at Fort Wilderness!
For your first day - you will wake up at 4am or earlier - you will want to go back to sleep again an hour or so later -but not the kids - heh heh
So, if you can imagine, you will feel a little tired by lunchtime, but you will be able to keep going, although the sight of everything in Disney hitting you full pelt on your first day - wow will you take it in?
Personally I always recommend Sea World first day -at least it is mainly shows, so you get lots of chances to rest [waterski show is fabulous there!!]
HOWEVER if you have a "plenty of days type" Disney pass, and can afford to "waste" a day, and the kids are desperate, go for "rope drop" and aim to home to relax in the villa mid afternoon -then who knows, after a snooze on a sun lounger, you may have the energy to return for fireworks!
IF you manage to rearrange the kids ideas then Animal Kingdom is also a good starter -it has the Safari best seen early morning -and you can be there for early morning, trust me! - check the opening hours on the online calendar, and aim to be there 40 mins before that, to park etc -it closes earlier than other parks, so you will find it suits a first day as you will not be pushing yourselves to do " one more ride"
It isn't the endurance test it sounds - it is the best fun ever, but you need to plan well to enjoy it all, and have memories that last forever

The last time we were in Orlando we went to Animal Kingdom the first day plenty to see without being too energetic. Arriving late afternoon this time so my thoughts are get food shopping come back have a swim, snack and get the little ones to bed. They will wake early so go out for breakfast and head for Seaworld, we are getting Orlando flexi tickets and Disney Ultimate tickets so the 2 weeks we are there we will be mainly visiting the different parks. I reckon by the afternoon they will be tired so back to the villa for a relaxing time, hopefully by the 2nd day we will be more into Florida time, can't wait someone else mentioned when you you go to MK you have go over on the ferry, I still remember my first time of seeing the Magic Kingdom Castle, I was in my forties and I felt like a child again.
    Hope you have great holiday,
    Sally
