Miami is about 4 - 5 hours drive from the Orlando area and hotel/home rental prices are nothing like those in the Orlando area, they're more expensive.

If you're staying in a hotel, reckon on $100+ minimum per night per room and, if you're staying in a vacation home, then reckon on a minimum of $2-3000 a week.

As Blott says, it's around 5 hours drive and the route isn't the prettiest. I fly in and out of Miami when we stay on the Gulf Coast and, even though I have got to know it a little, I find getting around to be a nightmare. It's very easy to find yourself somewhere you definitely don't want to be and the road system is complex. I would strongly advise against arriving there as a stranger in the dark.

Of course there are really great parts of Miami but, for me, the long drive there and back might not be worthwhile for 2 or 3 days. If you are set on going there, have a look at flights from Orlando or, for a real change, the train.

We did this trip last year via the Florida Turnpike, with one 1/2 hour stop it took us approx 4-5 hours.

it is about 200 miles south east of Orlando and like everybody has said about 4 hour drive. 30 mins from MCO in a plane.

There is some nice motels and hotels in FORT LAUDERDALE and cheaper than MIAMI and a short drive each day to go into MIAMI so well worth looking on internet and it will tell you distance and if there is other forms of transport instead of car and there is a lovely beach in LAUDERDALE .
    good luck
