Wow what fab pics Elaine - it looks wonderful. My cousin worked there as a teacher and got out quick when the first Gulf War started and has spent the last x years in Peru, just moved to Dubai and they don't like it at all!

All afternoon at the hospital yesterday, have to practice deep breathing - don't all laugh, take long slow VERY deep breath, count to 10 slowly, and slowly release. Does wonders for the abdomen and the lungs! Also have to go shopping for soft bra (preferably sports bra) which does up at the back and cotton pjs which button up at the front. My room is going to be boiling hot as I have to be kept warm (didn't like to mention I have no trouble with that due to hot flushes from the tamoxifen!) and under no circumstances am I allowed to open the window. I will skip over the corset and LOVELY stockings I have to wear for 3 - 4 weeks!![}]

However we have to suffer to look good so it will all be worth it in the end. Am pleased to say BP is again normal, so chuffed with that. Their scales agreed with SW's but was in kilos so as I said foreign measurements so they don't count!![msnwink] Had my hair cut and coloured today so it will last and be easy to look after when I am not very mobile - movement in left arm will be very restricted so difficult to try hair, never mind wash it. Needless to say we have not yet had the walk in shower installed so will have to climb in and out of the bath! Oh to be in my villa one!!

Pam I am trying to remember if you are a veggie or not? If not I suggest you stick to red days as may be easier to control when eating out - have a great time, it's the Festival opening isn't it?

Got the camera working so going to take pics of my lovely kittens and will post!

    Have a good weekend all.

Wonderful photos Elaine, thanks for sharing them with us. I hope you had a fantastic, relaxing time, especially in the roof top swimming pool.[msncool]

Fiona you sound really upbeat. Not sure what op you are waiting for, but I hope all goes well.[grouphug]

Pamela your scales sound like they are the same make as mine[msnwink]

Mizzy you are doing really well. Glad to see you're back on track[msnsmile2]

Had a 'florida day' yesterday by watching our Discovery Cove DVD from last year along with the DVD of where we are staying next year whilst doing the ironing. Also visited the disney website and watched some of their videos. Now feeling a little better so I am starting afresh tomorrow. Going to re-read my SW book in the bath and plan my meals for tomorrow. New target set as the summer one no longer achievable.

Will check in tomorrow to post a food diary.

Mizzy, our SW leader told us that even by going to the gym (not me!!!) you would not put any weight on through building muscle. It is only if you are an almost competitive 'weights' person that you would actually be vigourusly excercising muscle, not the average joe who goes to exercise at the gym???
    [/quote]

i agree sandra and whilst that's probably right for most people but if you are close to target like Julieanne is then it could be building muscle and diminishing those fat stores and we all know which weighs more[msnwink] Julie (mach2) knows more about this, she's the fitness expert
    [/quote]

Hi all, Sandra that's not actually true[msnwink]

There may, indeed be a short-term weight gain when an exercise program is begun. Of course, a pound of muscle weighs exactly the same as a pound of fat. Fat, however, is slightly less dense than muscle, meaning that a set volume of muscle will weigh slightly more than the same volume of fat.

Humans are water-based organisms, and most of what goes on metabolically involves transport through a water-based medium. Fat, which is the most concentrated form of energy in the human body, is the way the body stores its energy. Adipose tissue, which is where our fat is stored, is not very active metabolically, and it contains very little water.

By contrast, the protein that makes up our metabolically active muscles and organs is mostly water.

The body does not like to waste energy, so it only keeps the amount of muscle needed to maintain the status quo. Extra muscle means more energy being burned, even while at rest. Think about an 8-cylinder engine versus a 4-cylinder engine burning gas while at idle.

If we become less active, the body slowly reduces its muscular mass down to that needed to keep the show going. When we pick up the pace, the body responds by building more muscle.

During exercise, our energy demands are primarily fueled by body fat. Exercise is a stress on a body that is not used to a workout. The stress extends to the muscles as well as the heart and circulatory system. If the energy demand becomes routine, the body reduces the stress by building new muscles to handle the load and by increasing blood volume to carry the nutrients and waste products, and lung capacity to deliver oxygen (and remove carbon dioxide) as needed.

Let's assume you are eating a fixed number of calories and begin your exercise program. As you make new muscles and other supporting tissues, you call on your energy-dense tissue (adipose) to create new muscle and other tissues that are primarily water.

The numbers on the scale will go up slightly, but it is important to realize that it is mostly water weight you are gaining. You are not getting fatter, but home scales do not provide that breakdown.

If you were to stop exercising, you might actually lose weight. But, again, it is water you are losing, and you might be getting fatter at the same time. Focusing solely on the numbers on the scale can be discouraging because it does not give you the complete picture, even when good things are going on inside.

Becoming more fit is a good thing. It enhances your body's ability to handle stress, and you create metabolically active tissue that will burn calories even when you are sitting around reading a book. Making it a habit is an important part of the picture; otherwise, you will lose that stress-coping, calorie-burning advantage.[msnwink][msnwink][msnwink]

Elaine Q8 looks fantastic and the cheesecake[msntongue][msntongue][msntongue]

Pam 30 lbs did make me laugh[clap][clap][clap]

Fiona sounds like you are all ready to go [grouphug]what date is your op? Can't wait to see the kittens!!

Ali it is reconstructive surgery as I had to have a radical mastectomy following diagnosis of breast cancer, they are making the new one out of my tummy, which means I get to have a flat stomach, which is not something that has been seen for a long time! I go in at 7.00am 4th August, so on a countdown to get everything done before I go in.

Julie have you taken some benadryl or some other meds for allergies? It's all this warm and then wet weather brings the little blighters out.
