    Miami weather

    Hi all

On 13th October I shall be coming to Miami with my family. All I'm asking for is the weather 2 b gorgeous [8D]. Anyone tell me if this is gonna be the case only I've heard that the weather hasnt been too good over there just recently!? I need to know if i need to pack my woolies and rain coats or bikinis and bathers [:0]

Also does anyone know of any good child friendly restaurants/bars? my kids are 5, 4 and 2 years old. We love eating and 'drinking' [:I] out so I would appreciate any info on some good places. We are staying close to Millionaires Row if thats any help.

    Cheers in advance
    Joanne

    Hi Joanne

We have just come back from Orlando and the weather was ok for most of the time, with only a few cloudy days and although Miami is a few hundred miles south of Orlando they have very similar weather patterns.

I would think that the temp's will still be ok, early to mid 80's during the day and at night early to mid 70's - so no need for any jumpers, unless you get cold in the air conditioned bars [)]

I would however take an umbrella as you may get the odd shower at a moments notice.

    Hope this helps.

I have been told it rains a lot in Miami some parts of the year....a friend went there and it rained every day for two weeks....I think that must be in the summer wet season....which ends mid Oct....

Miami is well known for its warm weather. Ideal conditions exist between December and May, when temperature average between 59 and 75 degrees F (15 to 25 degrees C), and average rainfall is scant 2.01 inches. A period between December till May is also considered the busiest tourist season in Miami.

Summer is very hot and humid. June is the rainiest month, with an average of 9.33 inches, and temperature average between 75 and 88 degrees F (24-31 degrees C). August is probably the hottest month, with average temperatures between 77 and 89 degrees F (25-31 degrees C). However, it feels a lot hotter because of a high level of humidity (90%)!

The best time to visit Miami and Miami Beach is during the winter (October - April). The weather is extremely pleasant in those months- warm but fresh, with lower humidity that usual.

We have found the weather further down the florida peninsular warmer rather than cooler than Orlando area.

We stayed in Miami for a couple of nights 29 and 30 Dec, balmy warm days of 80+ and equally pleasant warm nights. We got quite a shock when we got to Orlando - arrived in time for the rainstorm on New Year's Eve which curtailed any plans for that night - had the soberist NYE of all time!

Can't help with where to go as I said we were only there 2 nights and were on South Beach which is a MADHOUSE!

However, this being the USA you will have no trouble taking your kids and finding bars and eateries.

The weather in Miami is warm at the moment. The other day they did have a lot of rain and the roads were awash (about 1' deep) it did clear in 24 hours. I get very regular weather up dates as my son is at the University of Miami. He now delights in giving me a daily comparison now that our temperature has nosedived.

He also mentioned a mall called Falls Mall at the weekend that he said was open air but very nice as it has water features running the length of it making it different from most other malls.

Oh yes, forgot about the HUGE mall at Fort Lauderdale - goes on forever and ever and ever.

And of course, as you drive along the roads you could be in an episode of Miami Vice! And as for the 30's architecture - wow - and the great little cable car eateries. Shame about the food we had in one of them, but it looked good!

I'll see if I can post any of my pics (stand by guys for my usual whining e-mail - they won't post, please will you put them up!!)

thanks for all the info - its much appreciated

As for the malls that would be my speciality - i love shopping just as much as lazing on the beach (but with the kids i doubt i'll get much of either done although our townhouse does over look the beach. we only have to walk out of the back gate and we are there [8D]

I'm just really looking forward to it - it's my first holiday for 6 years so we decided to try somewhere different (though the Miami Dolphins had a big say in it as we are huge fans ) We originally priced up to go to somewhere like Spain but for a family of 5 going all inclusive (which most places are now over there) it was going to cost £2000+ whereas Miami was just £1600. I know we have food etc to get but who cares when your in Miami [8D]

Anyway as always many thanks to all you for your input.

    Cheers Joanne x x x x
