    alamo problems

    hello to all
my experience with alamo was just appalling. very hard sell with upgrade
and more insurance even though i took out gold. booked and paid for a 7 seater 4x4 there were none no free upgrade had to pick from a standard 4x4 which all had dents and damage. next time dollar.

i think this was not my lucky day as a lot of you say you have been happy with alamo and this is not normal.

I'm sorry to hear about this. As you say, it really is very unusual. I have passed this over to Alamo as a serious complaint, as you did indeed book the 7 seater SUV.

Hi Mac this is not un-usual with Alamo, i had exactly the same in October last year and complained to Alamo, i actualy went over Alamo to Vanguard got the CEO email and fired off at him, got an e-mail back with a $209 refund, still waiting for the credit and have a complaint in with Better Buisiness Beureau now, as they havent paid it to my card but someone elses card. I travel twice a year out there and since 2005 i have had the hard sell every time but just tell the rep to give me what i orderd and dont muck me about as he wouldnt appreciate my responce as a seasond traveler...

I am off out again tomorrow so will see if they live up to their old tricks..

I really wouldn't worry. Problems with any supplier (whether it be Dollar, Alamo or Budget) are very rare, and no more common with one supplier over another.

The nature of a forum is that if someone is unfortunate enough to have a problem then it will be posted and understandably other people can become worried. You have to take into account there are many thousands of bookings each year, 99.9% of which are competely trouble free.

    hi to all
it was not the hard sell that was the major problem although i could of easy hit him but kept my cool but the fact that he tried to get me to pay for an upgrade to a hummer or 8 seater van knowing there were no 7 seaters lucky i did not need 7 seater i went for the extra room.
last time i went with dollar order a full size car and was given an upgrade to a 6 seater pacifica without any hassle i didn't even know it untill i found the car.bare in mind this is the start of the holiday.

Dont worry Steve, we have just come back from our villa and used Alamo for the first time. We had booked via this site with the gold insurance, we were asked once if we would like to upgrade and when we declined they didnt ask again. We got the car we had hired without a problem.

We have used Alamo quite a few times and found them fine. In fact the good thing about them is that you can pick your own car within the price range you have ordered.

the answer to canarypam quote is yes that's why i went with Alamo but if they don't have the car you ordered and paid for and don't upgrade free what's the point.

That's why your case is so unusual, and I'm sure we'll get to the bottom of it (they do have an obligation to provide at lease the size booked).
