    Ant bites/stings

Has anyone been bitten or stung by ants while in florida?

I was standing next to boggy creek tours, looking out onto the lake when I thought I must have stood on some nettles. I looked down and my foot was on a small mound of earth, I realised it was an ants nest and my foot was covered in them. not sure if they were biting or stinging but it was sore and i stepped back shaking them off my foot and removing my sandles to make sure they were all gone.

My wife was sitting in the car wondering what kind of new dance I was doing [laugh][laugh]

It was stinging for a few hours after then was fine but next day I had several sore looking boils on my foot. They are going now after about 4 days but just a warning to others to watch what you stand on or near to.

Ants will defend their teritory like mad and if you get near them they will give you a good nip. I went on the grass outside the villa to move some rubbish and got bit by one of the bigger ants. It does sting for a while, but I put some bit cream on it and was fine afterwards.

I would have liked to have seen this new dance! I can just imagine it....

I myself have a scar from an ant bite on the ankle, but it was my fault for scratching open the little pimple after the bite. DONT SCRATCH THE BITE! I had a little infection in which some 'flesch' (not much on the ankle).
The ants seem to plan an attack, they wait until a hundred of them are on you and then the let the word out to all bite at once! Hence the 'Fire Ant Dance' ! Keep a look out for a small mound of dirt which the entrance to the nest.
I think alcohol (not by drinking LOL)(rubbing) put on the bite will help with the stinging pain.

For wasp bites I found on the internet that a copper penny put on the bite for about 15 minutes will take the affects away from the bite and usually the bite show no effects afterwards. I do not know if it will work for skeeters and no-see-ums.

My husband never goes anywhere without his bottle of lavender oil, but it must be the pure essential oil, works everytime.
