    proof of age ID

We are going out on 17 dec with my 23 yr old daughter and her husband 26 yrs.will they need to carry ID for proof of age.I assume it will be just the alcohol issue.I am reluctant to carry passports in fear of losing them.
The rest of us are over 40 so sadley we wont need it anyway.
    thanks. kim

It has to be photo ID. They accept passports and Florida driving licenses. My 18 year old son is still carrying his passport everywhere with him as ID. It is asking for trouble. Will be glad when he has done his Florida driving test. Both the 23 and 26 year old will need ID. They ask for it if you look under 30.

As esprit says, you will need it if you look under 30 (or if the clerk isn't sure or just wants a laugh at your passport photo )

Even if you go to a bar and you are not wanting to drink alchohol, they may still ask you for ID.

Carry ID with you at all times. I used to hate carrying the passport around with us, but you have to do it.

Do you not have the option to have a driving licence with photo on it in the UK now? Too late to get one for the 17th Dec, but may help someone else.

Also some stores may ask to see ID even when you make a purchase with your credit card.

And also sometimes when using travellers checks. So unless you have photo driving licenses it is sometimes worth carrying all your passports anway. (just make sure if you go on any water rides they are well protected)

If you have UK Photo Driving Licences then these are the best bet to take out with you if you get asked for ID.

Otherwise it is the Passports I am afraid.

The request for ID is usually connected with a request for alcohol, in general you should be ok in the main restaurants, but in bars they are a little more strict.

It just come down to whether you look your age or not - I am 39 and in September, I was asked for ID at a bar - not sure if the bartender was having a laugh or had failing eye sight

In addition more and more shops ( Nike for example ) are asking for ID when purchasing goods either with Travellers Cheques or Credit Cards and that just down to them stopping fraud.

To be on the safe side, make sure that at least one adult member of your party has ID when you go shopping.

Am I going mad or is mine the only UK photo ID driving licence with my date of birth scrambled up in my driver's ID number for privacy reasons?

If I'm not the only one, then a UK photo ID driving licence is useless for proving your age.

I checked mine before I posted and mine doesn't! Does that mean I'm illegal I wonder? Or perhaps I'm just too old to have my age broadcast on my driving licence?

    Hi Blott

Not sure if you are too old or not [)]

But you set me thinking and I have just double checked my Driving Licence and as Caroline says Line 3 does give the holders date and place of birth.

Looks like you might have the re-apply to the DVLA for new one.
