    Unhappy self drive airboats

Hi - when we went to Florida last time (2002!) we hired a self drive airboat (a place on the 192) is it still possible to hire these and were from?

As my kids are young, 3 and 5 yrs I think the airboat trips as part of a bigger group will not interest them/be too fast etc for them. A self hire option would suit us best

    Thanks
    Nadim

    H Nadim,
Regret to say that self-drive airboats (they also did kayaks) disappeared about 4 years ago !!
Although there are many & varied airboat ride sites, as far as I am aware, there are no self-drive options...
    (sorry).

You might want to look into the boat tours of Winter Park, then, definitely suitable for kids, quite gentle and very interesting. We have down this a few times now and really enjoy it.

An alternative boat trip which would probably keep youngsters facinated: Silver Springs.
Glass-bottomed boats over a natural spring with crystal clear water (60' deep if I remember rightly)...
Lots of fish & things to see + the boats run up the river a while - usually alligators & plenty of wildlife !!
    Just Google "Silver Springs".

Yep, Silver Springs is definitely worth a visit as well. They also have special events seasonally, so it is worth checking their calendar.
