    Advice please.

Hi, I am beginning to make plans for our holiday nextyear. Originally I was looking to fly Manchester to New York, for 3-4 days, then shuttle down to Sanibel Island for a week and then anOrlando Villa for a week, flying back Orlando - Manchester.

However, looking at the flight prices, trying to work outhow much luggage I would need and then pricing it all up (we don’t travellight), I am now rethinking my plans.

I am considering flying Manchester Miami; 3-4 days in Miami, then driving backup to Sanibel and finally Orlando.

So my questions are this, who is the best air line to use, Iwould prefer to fly direct but don’t think that’s possible? Any advice on self catering in Miami – Fort Lauderdalearea, any other good ideas would be appreciated, thinking about going earlyMarch 2013.

Would it be easer to fly directly into and out of Orlando and just drive down to Miami?

Appreciate all your help – as always, you never let me down,

    Diane. [msnsmile]

    Hi
We have been to Miami several times and stayed in a basic condo on Ocean Drive (fantastic position right on south beach) and a nice villa with pool - not such a good position, a drive to the beach but more room. So if you are self catering you need to choose between villa with pool and space or a condo in a central position. It is easy to self cater with all the usual supermarkets etc.
The drive from Miami to Orlando is about 4 hours and as flights to Miami are often cheaper than to Orlando, we have sometimes flown to and from Miami but stayed in Orlando.
I would recommend a trip into the Everglades while you are in Miami.
You can fly direct to Miami from Heathrow with several airlines, Virgin and American Airlines are two, but I don't know about Manchester. It is usually cheaper to indirect. There is not much to choose between the main airlines, it is just a case of looking on line for a good deal at the time you want to go.
    Have fun doing the planning

Hi Diane - hope you're keeping well!

There isn't a direct service from Manchester to Miami anymore so, for me, the best routes are either Manchester-JFK-Miami on American or through Heathrow and then on to Miami on BA. You'll be in Miami in the late afternoon on either of those. You can fly home from Orlando on either of those airlines but AA would be best because BA won't fly to Manchester from Gatwick next year. I think all the major carriers are all a bit stingy on baggage allowances so you might have to pay extra to take a lot of stuff.

Just a thought on early March - I don't know about Miami at that time but Sanibel rental rates are very high then because it's peak season on the Gulf. You might want to check that before booking flights.

Depending on when you are thinking of in Miami it is quite busy with spring break lads and lasses and can be quite noisy.

Easter falls in April next year, so the snowbirds will be in residence until at least the end of March. The prices will be high in March and many condos/villas will have minimum stays.

I would check out prices and availability before booking flights.

We are flying into Orlando and after a spell of doing the parks we are driving down to Marco Island for a spell then over to Miami for a couple of days. We are flying from Manchester to Orlando and then Back from Miami to Manchester. Change in Philly both ways using US air.

    Hi Diane

I think the best thing would be to do as Vickk says above. We flew with US Air this year and changed at Phili the planes were very good
    I can highly recommend.

    Happy Planning xxx
